Little Red put themselves in Position to Win Section IV Champs

Section IV opponents stepped up to the challenge and gave the Little Red Swimmers a run for their money, yesterday during the Class A prelims.  Despite some setbacks the Little Red are still in good position to defend their title.  2015 Class A Section IV pre-lims

Jamie Lovette qualified for the State Championships in the 500 freestyle and the 200 Free Relay team of Francis Schickel, Robert Mangan, Andrew Mikhailichenko and Kevin Miller qualified also.  Francis Schickel made a state qualifying standard in the 100 butterfly.

Finals are on Saturday 9:00am at Owego Free Academy.

Little Red Begin Section IV Title Defense Tomorrow

The Little Red Swimming and Diving Team begin their Section IV class A title defense tomorrow at Elmira Free Academy for the preliminary round of the championships @ 4:30pm.  The top 16 qualifiers will be eligible for Finals on Saturday 9:00 am at Owego Free Academy.  The Little Red are looking forward to competition from their Class A cohorts: Binghamton, Corning, Elmira, Horseheads, Union-Endicott, and Vestal.

Top Section IV teams clash in Ithaca, Seniors honored

The Little Red hosted the Maine-Endwell Spartans in a battle for Section IV supremacy.  Both teams were undefeated going into the meet (each 6-0).  Ithaca started slowly but built a steady lead and didn’t let go.  106-79  was the final score leaving Ithaca with and undefeated season.  This is their 6th undefeated season in a row.

After the Ithaca Aquanauts defeated the Spartans they honored their 4 Seniors.  David Korb, Jakob Markwardt, Luciano Servetto and Eric Sinton.  We will certainly miss their leadership and their presence on deck!

The Little Red bring home eastern states title.

The Ithaca High School boys swimming and diving team won the Eastern States championships at the Nassau Aquatic center Saturday. They fended off section 2 power Shaker high school and Section 4 rival Maine-Endwell.

Ithaca sets 5 pool records in Win at Union-Endicott

En route to the their 74-28 win over the Union-Endicott Tigers, the Little Red set five pool records.  Francis Schickel set the new marks in the 50 free, 22.48, and the 100 free, 48.81.  Kevin Miller took the record in the 100 Fly, 56.55.  Jamie “Butters” Lovette’s 4:53.73 dropped the time by nearly 18 seconds.  The 200 Free Relay team of Robert Mangan, Andrew Mikhailichenko, Kevin Miller and Francis Schickel set the new standard at 1:30. 79.   While the pool records were impressive, it was a team win with many Aquanauts swimming “off” events to get some times in those events that they normally don’t swim.

The Little Red are traveling to Long Island to compete in the Eastern States Championship at the the Nassau Aquatic center on Jan. 24th.  The meet will be broadcast on Meet Mobile.

Little Red Swimmers have great week and pick up two wins.

The Boys started off the week with a dominating win on the road at their perennial rival the Vestal Golden Bears.  104-68.  This win marked Coach Blakely-Armitage’s 40th career win and extended their undefeated streak to 4-0.

Thursday, the Aquanauts hosted the Elmira Express.  Ithaca showed a lot of class in a lopsided victory over the Express.  114-46 elmira @ ithaca

In the win, Kevin Miller broke the pool record in the 500 freestyle set by former Little Red Swimmer and current U.S. National Swim Team member, Alex Meyer.  Kevin posted a 4:37.23 besting the record by half a second.   The Little Red won every event but the 1M diving.  Francis Shickel (50 Free/100 Fly), Andrew Mikhailichenko (200 Free/100 Breast), and Christian Varner (200 IM/ 100 Back)were double winners.  Robert Mangan also won the 100 Freestyle.

 

The Little Red take their undefeated streak (5-0) on the road next week.  On Tuesday they travel to Union Endicott and Saturday they travel to Long Island to compete in the Eastern States Championships.

Ryan Nicholson wins back to back Male Athlete of the Year Award

Ithaca Red Alum has won the Kenny Van Sickle Male Athlete of the Year Award for the 2nd year in a row.  Congratulations Ryan.

Ithaca Aquanauts Defend Beecher title

The Little Red successfully defended their Beecher Invite Class A title.  They have now won the meet 5 years on a row.

Kevin Miller was named the Swimmer of the meet because of his wins in the 200 free and 500 free (pool and invite record) as well as helping the 200 Medley relay to a 2nd place finish and a 1st place in the 400 Free.  Andrew Mikhailichenko added two more wins in the 200 IM and 100 Breast (state qualifying time) and was a member of the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay teams.  Francis Schickel won the 100 free with a state qualifying time and placed 2nd in the 200 free. Many other Little Red Swimmers had big time drops and added depth points to the narrow victory over Maine-Endwell.

The Little Red are back in action  on Jan. 13th at Vestal High School.

Little Red Open 2015 with a Win

After being a 3 week hiatus from competition that included a grueling 10 days of Holiday practices, Ithaca handled Corning in a STAC showdown  101-75 and improved its record to 3-0 on the season.    Meet Results:  corning at ithaca 2015

The Little Red are looking forward Saturday where they will compete at the Elmira Free Academy Beecher Invitational.   The Aquanauts will be competing against familiar STAC and Section IV as a primer for their Section IV title Defense in February.  Go LITTLE RED!!!
