Ithaca Rallies on Senior Night

The Little Red had their hands full with a fired up Maine-Endwell Spartans team.  Even though Ithaca won 10 of 12 events on the day, the Spartans depth was almost too much to handle for Ithaca.  Ithaca found themselves down 17 points after the diving event.  They inched their way back from the deficit as the meet progressed.  The meet came down to the last relay, the 400 Free Relay, the team that won this event would win the meet.  Ithaca pulled out the victory in the relay by 4 seconds and held on to a 94-91 win staying undefeated on the season.

The 200 Free Relay team of Jamie Lovette, Tim Hector, Cyrus Browning, and Robert Mangan also bested the pool record set in Dec, 2015  1:30.04   with the new mark of 1:30.03!!!

The Little Red also honored their 4 Seniors at the conclusion of the meet.  Rory Bodenstein, Owen Kelly, Jamie Lovette and Robert Mangan.   The Seniors are currently 27-0 in their dual meet careers and have won 2 Sectional Titles.  They have contributed immensely to the success of the team over the last 4 years.

Eastern States Championship is a solid test for Ithaca

The Little Red traveled to Long Island to compete teams from Rhode Island, New Jersey, and New York in the Eastern States Championships held at the Nassau Aquatic Center.  The team finished 3rd overall and had impressive performances throughout the competition.  Jamie Lovette was named outstanding competitor of the meet for winning the 200 and 500 Free, and helping the 200 Medley relay to a 2nd place finish and the 400 Free relay to a 2nd place finish.

The Ithaca Boys A relay started off by achieving a state qualifying standard in the 200 Medley relay and finished 2nd.  (Tim Hector, Cyrus Browning, Jamie Lovette, Rob Mangan) In the 200 Free event Jamie Lovette held off fast competition for the win.  Ben Silbert placed 16th and Carter Anderson placed 18th.  Tim Hector led Ithaca in the 200 IM by placing 7th and teammates Sergio Gomez and Sam Glaubitz placed 11th and 14th, respectively.  Wil Dewey was just out of scoring contention with a 21st place, but had a significant time drop.

In the 50 Free, Rob Mangan held on for the win by .03.   Nate Adams, Micah Schwartz and Zayd Shaik had career best times.

Kyle Mangan placed 19th in the 1 meter diving event in a very competitive field that included 2016 state champion Patrick Carter from West Islip.

Cyrus Browning placed 3rd in the 100 fly.  Teammates Sergio Gomez and Rory Bodenstein finished 13th and 18th to round of the scoring in that event.

In the 100 free, Rob Mangan finished 2nd and was the lone scorer for the Little Red.  Nate Adams, Seogi Yi, Sam Shvets and Micah Schwartz also had season best times.

The 500 Free showed Ithaca’s distance power!  Jamie Lovette finished first but had a tough race from teammate, Cyrus Browning, who finished 2nd.  Ben Silbert finished 12th and Sam Glaubitz finished 17th.

The 200 Free Relay team of Nate Adams, Sergio Gomez, Carter Anderson and Michael Guan finished 9th overall.

In the 100 backstoke, Tim Hector finished 3rd with a personal best time.  Rory Bodenstein finished 15th and Michael Guan finished 16th.  Freshmen Duncan Russell-Anelli and Wil Dewey finished 19th and 20th to round out the scorers for the Little Red.

Leo Song was the lone scorer in the 100 Breast, finishing 13th.

The 400 Free Relay concluded the competition.  The B relay of Sergio Gomez, Rory Bodenstein, Sam Glaubitz and Seogi Yi dropped several seconds from their seed time and beat several of the A relays with their performance.   The A relay squad of Jamie Lovette, Tim Hector, Cyrus Browning, and Robert Mangan had a great race with the Long Beach and the Shen Relay teams.  The Little Red finished in 2nd place that was enabled by a fast anchor leg by Robert Mangan.

Ithaca scrapes together win at 35th Beecher Invite

The Little Red continued their streak at the Beecher Invitational held at Ernie David Academy, extending it to 7 Class A Team titles.  A Little Red Swimmer has also been honored to receive the Most Outstanding Performer in all 7 of those efforts.

The depth of the Maine-Endwell Spartans proved to be a significant challenge to the Ithaca Team.  Ithaca saw themselves down by 30 points with 4 events remaining.  With relay wins in the 200 and 400 Free Relays, a dominant performance in the backstroke events and solid breastroke performance, Ithaca pulled off the 13 point win.

Jamie Lovette was named Outstanding Performer of the meet with wins in the 200 and 500 Free events and contributing to the 200 and 400 Free Relay wins.

Additionally, the Little Red showed dominance in the 200 Free by placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd (Lovette, Cyrus Browning, Owen Kelly).  Jamie Lovette and Owen Kelly claimed the top two spots while Ben Silbert placed 4th in the 500 free.   Tim Hector touched first in the 100 backstoke and Robert Mangan had the top time in the 100 free event.

With Win at Vestal, Ithaca Improves to 4-0

Ithaca went on the road to STAC rival, Vestal and came away with a dominating 117-68 win.  The Little Red one 10 of 12 events on the night.  Jamie Lovette broke a 30 year old pool record in the 500 Freestyle.  Lovette also teamed up with Robert Mangan, Owen Kelly and Cyrus Browning with another Pool record in the 400 Free Relay.

Jamie Lovette won the 200 Free.  Robert Mangan swept the 50 free and 100 free sprints.  Cyrus Browning won both the 100 Fly and the 100 Breast.   Tim Hector also won the 100 backstroke.   Hector was also part of the winning 200 Medley Relay ( Browning, Gomez, R. Mangan) and the 200 Free Relay (Anderson, Lovette, Adams).  Full Results

Ithaca Finishes 3rd at Shen Invite, qualifies relays for states.

With a very young team, the Little Red rose to the challenge against New York State’s fastest teams.  Ithaca Swimmers won 5 events on the day.  The Aquanauts had season best times in many events throughout the meet.  The top 16 finishers scored points in the meet.  Ithaca had many scoring finishes in the contest.  Full Results

Jamie Lovette won the 200 and 500 Free events.  9th grader, Cyrus Browning, was 2nd

Rob Mangan won both the 50 and 100 Free events and qualified for the NY State meet in each event.

The 200 Free Relay of Rob Mangan, Evan Stevens, Cyrus Browning and Jamie Lovette finished first and also made a state meet qualifying time.

The 200 Medley Relay team of Tim Hector, Leo Song, Sergio Gomez, and Evan Stevens finished 10th.

In the 200 Free Owen Kelly finished 13th and Carter Anderson finished 16th.

In the 200 IM, Tim Hector finished 9th

In the 50 free, Evan Stevens finished 8th.

In the 100 fly, Cyrus Browning finished 7th and Sergio Gomez finished 15th.

In the 500 Free, Owen Kelly finished 11th, Ben Silbert finished 14th.

In the 100 Back Tim Hector finished 7th.

In the 400 Free Relay the team of Jamie Lovette, Owen Kelly, Cyrus Browning and Rob Mangan finished 2nd and qualified for the state meet.

The Little Red have a break from competition and after 2 weeks of solid training will face Vestal high School on January 6th.

Little Red are Rolling, 3-0

The Ithaca Little Red improved to 3-0 with a win over Corning 119-64.   Ithaca won 11 of 12 events en route to the victory.  Full Results Diver, Kyle Mangan notched his first contested dual meet win by upsetting Corning Diver Logan Bunch.

Other individual winners for the Little Red include: Jamie Lovette (200 and 500), Tim Hector (200 IM and 100 back), Rob Mangan (50 and 100 Free), Sergio Gomez (100 Fly).

The Little Red also swept all three relay events: 200 Medley Relay (Hector, Browning, Lovette, R.Mangan), 200 Free Relay (R.Mangan, Browning, Stevens, Lovette), 400 Free Relay (Browning, Kelly, Hector, Anderson).     In addition, Cyrus Browning qualified for the state meet in the 500 free finishing 2nd to teammate Jamie Lovette.

Friday Dec 16th, the team will travel to Clifton Park, NY to participate in the Shenendehowa Invitational.  Follow the meet on Meet Mobile.

Little Red improve to 2-0

File_000 (2)Dec 9, 2016.  The Ithaca Little Red dominated the visiting Binghamton Patriots 119-43.  The Little Red won 12 out of 12 events.  The Little Red had the top 3 finishers in each swimming event and Kyle Mangan was the lone diver and put on a clinic.

Individual winners for the Little Red were: Jamie Lovette (200 Free), Tim Hector (200 IM and 100 back), Rob Mangan (50 free and 100 free), Owen Kelly (500 free), Cyrus Browning (100 fly and 100 breast).   The Little Red also swept the relays: The 200 Medley Relay (Tim Hector, Leo Song, Cyrus Browning, and Evan Stevens) 200 Free Relay (Rob Mangan, Owen Kelly, Evan Stevens, Jamie Lovette), 400 Free Relay ( Rob Mangan, Owen Kelly, Cyrus Browning, Jamie Lovette).

Boys Start 16-17 Season With Impressive Win

The Boys Aquanauts started their 2016-2017 campaign with a 75-27 win at Union-Endicott.  The 200 Medley Relay team of Tim Hector, Cyrus Browning, Jamie Lovette, and Robert Mangan touched first and set a pool record (1:41.53).  Browning continued the record setting in the 200 free and also qualified for the state meet (1:47.28).   Jamie Lovette set a pool record in the 500 free (4:44.23) and also qualified for the state meet. Additional individual winners were Tim Hector (200IM and 100 back), Robert Mangan (50 free), Sergio Gomez (100fly), Evan Stevens (100free), Leo Song (100breast).  The quartet of Rob Mangan, Evan Stevens, Cyrus Browning and Jamie Lovette teamed up to win both the 200 Free Relay and the 400 Free Relay (pool Record 3:19.14).  In addition to the wins, many of the Little Red Swimmers and Divers performed well tonight.  The Little Red won 11 of 12 events and placed 1st and 2nd in 10 of the events.  Ben Silbert had a PR in the 500 Free.  Wil Dewey contributed a nice depth swim in the 200 IM.  Evan Stevens and Sergio Gomez had solid swims in the 50 free and 100 fly respectively.  The Little Red race again Dec. 9th at home vs. Binghamton.   Full Results

Little Red Shine at NY State Meet!!!

The Ithaca High School Girls had a strong showing at the New York State High School Championship Swimming and Diving championships.  The meet was punctuated by a historical fast field and 9 state records broken throughout the meet.  The Little Red battled sickness and injury to perform at a very high level.   The Ithaca High School Aquanauts finished 11th overall as a team. The States team included Delia Ablard, Annika Browning, Jordan Lu, Micaela Moravek, Seldoen Oshoe, Kristen Reid, Willa Royce-Roll and Indie Stratton.   Full Results

Individual highlights include:

Indie Stratton and Annika Browning got things rolling for the Little Red by placing 24th and 12th in the 200 Freestyle.   ESPN 1160 News Short

Micaela Moravek finished 33rd in the 50 freestyle in a very competitive field

Jordan Lu finished 29th overall in the 1 meter diving.

Indie Stratton finished 48th in the 100 freestyle in a very strong field.

Annika Browning finished 14th in the 500 free in a very fast consolation final heat.

In the 200 Free Relay the quartet of Indie Stratton, Kristen Reid, Micaela Moravek and Annika Browning finished 7th with a time of 1:38.75.

In the 400 Free Relay it took 5 different swimmers to complete what was an amazing pre-lims and finals swims for the Little Red.   In Pre-lims,  Micaela Moravek, Delia Ablard, Kristen Reid and Annika Browning  just snuck in to the top 10 with a 3:39.00.  In Finals, Indie Stratton, Kristen Reid, Micaela Moravek and Annika Browning moved up to 5th place with a time of 3:35.46
