Boys start season with a team win

The Little Red traveled to the Hilton invite for an early season test against Section III stand out, Watertown.  Both teams had graduated impressive classes the previous season and were battling for the team title at the meet relying on rookies and underclassmen to get the job done.

Ithaca started the meet off with a win in the 200 Medley Relay (Tim Hector, Leo Song, Sergio Gomez, Evan Stevens).   Carter Anderson added a win in the 200 Free and 2nd in the 100 backstroke.  Tim Hector finished first in the 100 back and added a 2nd place in the 200 IM.  Sergio Gomez added a 3rd place finish in the 100 fly.  Evan Stevens finished 3rd in the 100 free and Victor Teng finished in the top three in the 100 breaststroke.  The 400 Free Relay team of Evan Stevens, Nate Adams, Carter Anderson and Tim Hector finished 2nd.  Full Results

Ithaca Are Section IV Class A Swimming and Diving Champions

Ithaca successfully defended its Section IV Class A team championship Saturday with a 41 point victory over Horseheads.

The Little Red won 4 of 12 events on the day and won the meet on its exceptional depth.  Ithaca’s 200 Medley Relay (Gwen Lindberg, Ana Machidon, Willa Royce-Roll, Delia Ablard) touched first in the first race of the day, setting the tone for the meet.  This young Little Red team swam faster than their Preliminary times and did not let up during each race throughout the day.

In the 200 freestyle event, Elise Nishii-Kim placed first and qualified for the State championship competition.  Delia Ablard, Alexandra Moravek and Molly Reid finished 2nd, 3rd and 7th respectively.

200 Individual Medley: Willa Royce-Roll finished 2nd, Popo Hong 6th, Lucy Wang 8th and Sophie Mertha 9th.

50 Freestyle: Chloe Giovannoni 5th, Ilah Jefferis 10th, Mea Vesci 12th.

1 Meter Diving: Jordan Lu 2nd, Lucia Salfi 3rd

100 Fly:  Willa Royce-Roll defended her 100 fly championship, Isabel Rubin 5th, Lucy Wang 6th, and Sophie Mertha 10th.

100 Freestyle: Chloe Giovannoni 2nd, Alexandra Moravek 3rd, Gwendolyn Lindberg 6th, Ana Machidon 9th.

500 Freestyle: Elise Nishii-Kim qualified for states and touched first, Irene Hwang 4th, Isabel Rubin 5th, Ilah Jefferis 10th.

200 Free Relay: the team of Chloe Giovannoni, Gwendolyn Lindberg, Alexandra Moravek, Elise Nishii-Kim finished 2nd and qualified for the State meet.

100 Backstroke: Delia Ablard 2nd, Gwendolyn Lindberg 3rd, Molly Reid 5th, Mea Vesci 6th.

100 Breaststroke: Irene Hwang 3rd, Ana Machidon 5th, Popo Hong 6th, Zoey Zentner 9th.

400 Freestyle Relay: the team of  Nishii-Kim, Giovannoni, Ablard and Royce-Roll finished 2nd and qualified for the stated meet.

Ithaca Closes out Dual meet Season with Win on Senior Night

The Little Red gave a proper send off to their Seniors: Popo Hong, Jordan Lu, and Lucy Wang by beating Vestal handily 107-72.  The Little Red won 11 of 12 events on the evening.  Individual winners for the Little Red were Elise Nishii-Kim in the 200 Free, Willa Royce-Roll in the 200 IM, Lexi Moravek in the 50 free and 100 back, Jordan Lu in diving, Lucy Wang in the 100 fly, Chloe Giovannoni in the 100 free and Delia Ablard in the 500 free.  The Relay team of Ablard, Ana Machidon, Royce-Roll and Giovannoni won the 200 Medley Relay.  Giovannoni, Gwen Lindberg, Royce-Roll, Nishii-Kim also teamed up to win the 200 free relay.  Finally, the team of Ablard, Giovannoni, Nishii-Kim and Royce-Roll capped off the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay.   Full Results

Salfi shines at Jack Mathers memorial diving invite

At the 2017 Jack Mathers memorial diving invite Little Red Diver, Lucia Salfi stood tall against a stacked Section IV diving field.  She looked solid through the preliminary, Semi Final and Final Round.  Lucia finished 2nd overall with a personal best diving score of 378.00.   Results

Cardiac Kids: Little Red Steal Win 97-89 from visiting Owego

The Little Red Girls Swimmers and Divers pulled out a close win versus Owego Free Academy 97-89.  Owego started off the meet strong and held a consistent 8 to 10 point lead until the Little Red Breastroke team of Ana Machidon, Irene Hwang and Popo Hong, finished 1, 2, and 3 respectively to give the Little Red a 2 point lead going into the final event, the 400 Free Relay.  The Little Red squad of Delia Ablard, Chloe Giovannoni, Elise Nishii-Kim, and Willa Royce-Roll won the final relay to clinch the victory.  Full Results

Nishi-Kim was a double winner in the 200 and 500 Freestyle events.  Ablard also won the 100 Freestyle and the 100 backstroke.   In close meets like this 3rd and 4th place points are also very important.  Chloe Giovannoni, Lexi Moravek, Lucy Wang, Isabel Rubin, Molly Reid, Popo Hong and Gwen Lindberg proved much needed depth points throughout the meet.

The Little Red host Vestal on Tuesday Oct. 17th at 5:30pm.  This is Senior Night!

Little Red win at home, look to Shen Invite

The Little Red Swimming and Diving team had a dominating win at home versus Elmira School District.  Ithaca won all 12 events en route to the 125-58 victory.  Full Results

The Little Red placed 1st and 2nd in every event on the evening.  Individual winners for the Little Red were : Chloe Giovanonni in the 200 Free, Isabel Rubin in the 200 Individual Medley, Gwen Lindberg in the 50 Free, Jordan Lu in diving, Delia Ablard in the 100 fly, Lexi Moravek in the 100 free, Irene Hwang in the 500 free, Molly Reid in the 100 back and Lucy Wang in the 100 breaststroke.   The Little Red are setting their sights on the Shenendehowa “Think Pink” Invitation this coming weekend.  They will be competing against the State’s best competition and hoping to come home with some state cuts and hardware!!!  GO RED!!!

Little Red Finish 3rd at Elmira Invite

Ithaca High School Girls Swimmers and Divers faced a strong test on Friday and Saturday at Ernie Davis Academy.  The Little Red Finished 3rd in the Class A division with 246 points.  Horseheads finished first with 279 and Chenango Valley 2nd with 261.50.  Full Results

Top 12 finishers in each event scored and the top 6 overall made the podium.

The 200 Medley Relay team of Willa Royce-Roll, Ana Machidon, Lucy Wang and Delia Ablard finished 5th overall.   Molly Reid was 12th, Irene Hwang was 8th, Lexi Moravek was 6th and Elise Nishii-Kim 3rd in the 200 Freestyle.  Royce-Roll finished 5th in the 200 I.M. and Ablard was 10th overall.   In the 50 Freestyle Ilah Jefferis finished 9th while teammate Chloe Giovannoni finished 7th.  Jordan Lu made the podium for 5th place in diving (and made state qualifying standard) while her teammate Lucia Salfi finished 12th in the event.   Willa Royce-Roll was the lone winner for the Little Red.  She finished first in the 100 Butterfly.  Lucy Wang, Isabel Rubin and Sophie Mertha finished 9th, 10th and 12th, respectively.   In the 100 Free Giovannoni, Gwen Lindberg and Machidon added much needed depth points by placing 5th, 10th and 11th in the sprint.   In the 500 Freestyle Ilah Jefferis broke 6:00 for the first time and finished 12th while Elise Nishii-Kim had a strong swim for 3rd place.    The 200 Free Relay team of Nishii-Kim, Moravek, Giovannoni, and Lindberg finished with a strong 4th place showing.  The Little Red showed strength in the 100 back with Molly Reid, Moravek, Lindberg, and Ablard finishing 10th, 7th, 5th and 2nd respectively.  Irene Hwang led the Little Red in the breaststroke by finishing 5th.  Teammates Ana Machidon and Popo Hong finished 7th and 8th.   The final event of the day, the 400 Free relay showed the Little Red battling against veteran Horseheads and Chenango Valley teams.  The team of Ablard, Giovannoni, Nishii-Kim, and Royce-Roll scraped out a 3rd place in the relay.    The Little Red look to host Elmira at home Oct. 3rd and will Travel to Shenendehowa H.S. on Oct 6th for the Shen “Think Pink” Invite.

Ithaca Girls Win Owego invitational

The Little Red Girls Swimming and Diving team won the 2017 Owego Invitational, besting Section IV powerhouse teams: Chenango Valley, Horseheads and Owego.

Little Red Enter New Territory with Loss

The Ithaca High School Girls Swimming and Diving program experienced its first loss in over two decades to the hands of STAC rival Horseheads High School.   The Little Red performed admirably but the Horseheads team were able to answer each of Ithaca’s strengths with a slightly faster swimmer.  full results   Ithaca performed well under the pressure with a very young team that has a bright future.

In the loss Ithaca won 5 events.   Elise Nishii-Kim won the 200 Freestyle event by over 6 seconds.  Nishii-Kim also won the 500 freestyle and teammate Delia Ablard finished second in a dominating performance.  Jordan Lu won a closely contested diving competition.  Willa Royce-Roll touched first in the 100 butterfly and joined her teammates Lexi Moravek, Nishii-Kim and Chloe Giovannoni in winning the 200 Freestyle relay.

The Little Red look to the Owego Invite for their next competition.   Divers will be competing this Friday at 6pm at Owego Free Academy.  Swimmers will be competing at 10:00 am this Saturday.

Little Red Improve to 2-0 with win over Corning

Ithaca wins their home opener with a 108-72 win over STAC rival Corning Painted-Post High School.  Ithaca won 9 of the first 10 events in the meet. Lexi Moravek, Popo Hong, Lucy Wang and Chloe Giovannoni teamed up to win the 200 Medley Relay.  Delia Ablard, Giovannoni, Elise Nishii-Kim, and Willa Royce-Roll won the 200 Free Relay as well.  Individual winners for the Little Red were Elise Nishii-Kim in the 200 and 500 Free events, Lucy Wang in the 200 Individual Medley, Jordan Lu in the 1 meter diving, Willa Royce-Roll int he 100 butterfly and Chloe Giovannoni in the 100 free.  Full Results
