Ithaca opens season with win at Binghamton 123-56

The Little Red won 11 of 12 events at East Middle School pool in Binghamton en route to a 123-56 dominating win over the Binghamton High School Patriots.  The Little Red Aquanauts swept all three relays.  Delia Ablard, Ana Machidon, Willa Royce-Roll, and Chloe Giovannoni touched first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 2:00.36.   Ablard, Giovannoni, Machidon and Gwen Lindberg teamed up to win the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:50.36.  Elise Nishii-Kim, Giovannoni, Lindberg and Lucy Wang touched first in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 4:04.36.

Individual winners for the Little Red were Elise Nishii-Kim (200 free 2:06.53), Delia Ablard (50 free 27.30), Jordan Lu (1 M diving 197.30), Isabel Rubin (100 fly 1:06.98), Chloe Giovannoni (100 free 59.86), Irene Hwang (500 free 5:53.28), Lexi Moravek (100 back 1:07.62), Willa Royce-Roll (100 breast 1:15.42).

Get your car washed at Agway this Saturday by Little Red swimmers and divers.

Come out and support Ithaca high school’s girls varsity swimming and diving team at their annual car wash fundraiser. The team will be washing cars Saturday August 26 from 11:30 AM to 3 PM at Agway on S. Meadow St. in Ithaca.

Lovette and Blakely-Armitage are recognized at ESPN 1160 awards dinner

On Sunday, Jamie Lovette was recognized as the outstanding male swimmer of the 2016-2017 school year by ESPN 1160 in their listening area. Jamie needed to have a minimum of an 85% grade point average and be an outstanding performer in swimming.

Coach Blakely-Armitage was nominated from a group of coaches and athletic directors and selected by ESPN 1160 staff as the outstanding coach for a boys swim team in the listening area.

Scholar athletes and coaches from the area were recognized and congratulated by guest speaker and former Ithaca college football coach Mike Welch.

Little Red Swimmers Recognized at Senior Awards Ceremony and Board of Education Commendation

Academic and ExtraCurricular awards were given out at the Annual Senior Awards on Thursday at Ithaca High’s Kulp Auditorium.

Jamie Lovette received the Bethe Prize in Physics (Interest and appreciation of the field, nominated by teachers).   Terry Habecker Award in Athletics (Athletes that display competitive fire, team spirit, leadership and ethical play).

Micaela Moravek  NYS Regents Scholar award (top two in regent exam scores).   Dora Depew Memorial Award (excellence in mathematics and positive role model in classroom)

Tenzin Seldoen Oshoe CFCU Stringham Scholarship  (Academic excellence, leadership in school and dedication to serving others).

Lovette, Moravek and Oshoe will be joined by Rory Bodenstein, Annika Browning and Kristen Reid at the June Board of Education Commendation ceremony where they will be recognized for achieving Academic All-America status in Swimming (3.75 GPA over 7 semesters while being a Varsity team member).

Finally,  Jamie Lovette will be recognized for achieving All-America qualifying times in the 200 and 500 Free events.

Three Little Red Swimmers commit to college programs. 

Ithaca Little Red student athletes were recognized at Signing Ceremony today at IHS. 

Three Swimmers will be taking their talents to the collegiate level. 

Annika Browning officially signed with Div 1 Colgate University in the Fall and has accepted a partial scholarship to continue the tradition of Ithaca Distance in Clinton, NY. 

Owen Kelly was accepted at Susquehanna University and his freestyle talent will be a great addition the div 3 RiverHawks. 

Jamie Lovette was accepted at Williams College and recruited for his freestyle talent as well. His recent performances at the nys champs will make one of the top swimmers for the Ephs. (Eeefs)

Ithaca shines in NYS champs preliminary round

Ithaca started off the meet a little shaky by disqualifying their 200 medley relay.  From that point on the team had great swims. 

Jamie Lovette placed 4th in the 200 free and 3rd in the 500 free both of his swims were all-American times. Carter Anderson placed 44th in the 200 free, moving up several places. Robert Mangan placed 11th in the 100 free and 19th in the 50 free.   Cyrus browning placed 16th in the 500 free.  Tim Hector finished 43rd in the 100 backstroke, improving several places.  The relay team of Jamie Lovette, Owen Kelly, Cyrus Browning, and Robert Mangan placed 8th in the 200 free relay and 5th in the 400 free relay. 

Qualifiers that place in the top 30 in each event will compete in finals tomorrow.   GoLITTLE RED!

Ithaca looks to make big splash at NYS Championship meet

The Little Red are sending a a solid team to the upcoming state meet March 3rd and 4th at the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, NY.  The Ithaca Aquanauts will have swimmers competing in all of the Freestyle events as well as the 100 backstroke, the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 and 400 Free Relays.

Ithaca are 2017 Class A Sectional Champs

The Ithaca Little Red Swimming and Diving team won 9 of 12 events en route to winning the Section IV Class A Championship.  This win is the Little Red’s 6th title in 8 years, capping off a streak of 8 undefeated seasons.

Jamie Lovette was named Outstanding performer of the meet.  He contributed to wins in the 200 medley relay (Hector, Song, R. Mangan) and the 400 Freestyle relay (Kelly, Browning, Mangan).  He also won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle events.  Robert Mangan was also a “quad” winner for the Little Red.  Rob anchored both 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle relays and won the 50 and 100 freestyle events.  The team of Nate Adams, Tim Hector, Cyrus Browning and Owen Kelly touched first in the 200 Free Relay event.   Tim Hector also won the 100 Backstroke event and Cyrus Browning won the 100 Breaststroke.  The Little Red needed depth to win this meet and it was represented in every event.    Results

Ithaca posts strong Pre-lims performance at Section IV Champs

The Little Red had a very impressive showing at Ernie Davis Academy in the preliminary round of the Section IV Class A Swimming championships.

In each individual event all 4 of the designated scorers placed in the top 16 and will be swimming at the finals on Saturday at Owego Free Academy.    On Friday, Ithaca’s lone Diver, Kyle Mangan, looks to make a big impact on the board during the Diving Preliminary Round at Ernie Davis Academy.

Friday Diving starts at 5pm at Ernie Davis Academy in Elmira.

Saturday Swimming starts at 9:00am at Owego Free Academy.

Ithaca Finishes 7-0 with Win vs Elmira

The Little Red brought their depth to the meet and saw strong performances from underclassmen in the victory.  Wil Dewey had a pair of 1st place finishes (200 IM and 500 Free).  Fellow 9th graders, Flaminio Glaubitz won the 100 butterfly and Cyrus Browning touched first in the 50 Free.  The Little Red swept all three relays and remaining individual winners include Owen Kelly in the 100 Free, Tim Hector in the 100 back and Leo Song in the 100 Breast.    Full Results The Ithaca Aquanauts Senior class not only helped lead the team to an undefeated season, they are 29-0 in their High School careers (Rory Bodenstein, Owen Kelly, Jamie Lovette, and Robert Mangan).img_0134

The Little Red are looking ahead to Sectional Champs, where they hope to regain their Class A crown over Horseheads, Vestal, Corning, U-E, Binghamton and Elmira.   The Section IV Class A Swimming preliminary round is held Feb 15th 5:00pm at Ernie Davis Academy.  Diving is held at the same Venue on Friday Feb 17th at 5:00pm.   The Championship Final round will be held on Saturday Feb 18th at Owego Free Academy 9:00am.
