Ithaca notches win against Horseheads. 118-67

In a STAC matchup, Ithaca traveled to Elmira High School SouthSide to battle host Horseheads High School.

In what has proven to be a healthy rivalry, the Little Red won 11 of 12 events in a convincing 118-67 win.   Micaela Moravek (50 and 100 Free), Indie Stratton (200 Free and 100 Back) and Annika Browning (200 IM and 500 Free) were double winners for the Little Red.

This is the first of 5 competitions that Ithaca will race Horseheads (Owego Invite, Elmira Invite, Shen Invite and Sectional Championships).

Girls Swim and Dive drops anchor on M-E

The Little Red started their 2015 season on the right footing with a 104-81 win at Maine-Endwell.  After M-E won the first event in pool record time, the Little Red proceeded to win 9 of the next 11 events.   Annika Browning had two pool records in the 200 I.M. and the 500 Free (state qualifying time).   Indie Stratton added to the total with a pool record in the 100 back and a win in the 200 Free.  Jordan Lu set a new standard for the M-E diving board with a 255.45.    The relay team of Annika Browning, Kristen Reid, Micaela Browning, and Indie Stratton broke the 200 Free Relay time.

Little Red Alumni round out Coaching Staff

Alumni Kailey Gardner ’09, Kevin Nicholson ’11, and John Nord ’11 are assisting Head Coach Mike Blakely-Armitage this season.

Gardner holds the Pool record in the 500 free, was the former 500 Varsity record holder and was part of State Championship Teams and several Sectional Titles.  She went on to swim for the University of Vermont.   Recently, she has coached for Wesleyan in the NESCAC conference.

Nicholson recently graduated from Gettysburg University and was part of 4 Centennial Conference championship teams.  Kevin was Sectional Champ in the 100 breast and 200 IM and part of the 2010 Sectional Championship team.

Nord recently Finished a strong career at the University Buffalo.  While at Ithaca, Nord set the pace, achieving All-American time standards his Junior and Senior year in the 100 Breast.  He was a multiple individual event Sectional Champion and part of the 2010 Sectional Championship team.  Nord is the current Varsity and Sectional record holder in the 100 Breaststroke.

Little Red face first Test Friday @ M-E 5:30

The Little Red travel to Maine-Endwell to battle with the Spartans.   This team has a mix of experienced and rookie swimmers, but they are ready to race.  Together, they have hopes of extending their unbeaten streak.    This is their first meet in the STAC schedule and Coach Mike Blakely-Armitage’s first campaign with the Girls Aquanauts.   The meet starts at 5:30pm.  IMG_3985

Little Red Boys Finished 11th in the Nation

According to the National interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association,  The Little Red Boys Swim Team finished 11th in the nation for schools in their class!!!

Red v Gold meet tests team

 The Little Red swim team had their intersquad meet Saturday. Gold triumphed over Red 81-79.  Each swimmer swam each individual event of the meet, completing the Iron Woman meet.

Welcome to the season!

The Little Red Girls Swimming and Diving team kick off their first season under head coach Mike Blakely-Armitage.    Coach B-A is the current Boys coach and has had USA swim club coaching experience, Div III Collegiate experience and swam for Division III Ithaca College.   In addition to his love of Swimming, Blakely-Armitage also is an avid Star Wars fan.

Little Red Boys Aquanauts are Scholars!

Ithaca High School Boys Swimming and Diving have been recognized the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association as a Silver Scholar Team award for having a team GPA of 3.668, the Highest in New York State.
